Examination of Conscience
A private guide to confession, in English and Spanish
Three hundred and one items by the Ten Commandments, each with its source and its weight, the prayers of the confessional in Latin, English, and Spanish, and the current rite beside the traditional one. Mark what applies and it becomes the list you read in the confessional.
Nothing you mark leaves your phone. Works without a signal once opened.
How it works
- PrepareA prayer to the Holy Spirit, your state in life, and what makes a sin mortal.
- ExamineOne page in brief, or the full examination commandment by commandment. Mark what applies and how often.
- ConfessYour list in the order to say it, grave matter first, with the prayers and the priest's words beside them.
- AfterPenance, thanksgiving, and one practical resolution. Then erase the list.
On your phone
Open the guide, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. It installs like an app, opens without a signal inside a church, and remembers your marks until you erase them. Text size and language are set from the buttons at the top of every page.
Printed editions
The same guide as a fillable PDF for the pew or the desk, and as a Word file for pastors who want to mark it up.

What it rests on
Every item carries its reference: the Catechism, the Code of Canon Law, the papal and curial documents, and, where the Church has not ruled, the approved manuals of moral theology, named as such. Points on which faithful moralists disagree are marked disputed. The guide applies the discipline of the Latin Church and the norms of the United States, with a note for Puerto Rico.
This is a private aid for an ordinary confession. It carries no ecclesiastical approval and is not a substitute for the judgment of your confessor.
